A Delegation of Senior Officials of the American Coast Guard, captained by Admiral Karl Schultz, Commander of the Atlantic Area, visited the General Command of the Italian Coast Guard. During the visit, the PELAGUS system for maritime traffic surveillance and the W-AIS system, which allows encrypted AIS data exchange, were displayed. Through. After an initial general presentation of the Italian Coast Guard Corp, the main tasks of the Italian Coast Guard were discussed, with particular in reference to environmental protection, navigational safety and sea search and rescue activities.
The meeting continued with the visit of the Operations Center where the US delegation was able to appreciate PELAGUS and other maritime traffic control and monitoring systems and the modern technologies used by the Italian Coast Guard including the W-AIS system.
